Buick has actually survived after
GM's bankruptcy (thanks to sales in China) and it's about time
they have a real contender if they want to survive in their
native land.

| 2010 Buick LaCrosse |
vs |
2010 Lexus ES |

The LaCrosse was redesigned to go toe to toe with the Lexus ES
and looks like a knockout. Styling is fresh and for once doesn't
look like it's for Florida's elderly residents only (although
I'm sure they'll still buy it).
|
|

The ES was just recently refreshed to keep it competitive with a
new front fascia and grill. The front end is on the verge of
becoming a beak but manages to constrain itself (unlike
others). |

A Buick with muscular lines? Seems contradictory considering the
past few generations but it works. The crease in the side really
sets it apart and flows well from front to back. |
|

The Camry profile is evident which isn't a bad thing but lacks
any signs of real character like the Buick. The lower profile
keeps it looking slightly slicker though. |
|
|

Everything seems to mesh well with the rest of the car. The
crease in the side flows into the large, great looking taillights which then flows into a nicely shaped bumper. The
rectangular exhaust pipes are perfectly integrated and large
enough to be noticed. |
|

taillights have been refreshed but that's about the only thing
that looks different. The rear matches the front with thin taillights. The barely visible exhaust pipes show that this car's
main goal isn't performance (but neither is the LaCrosse). |

It's tough call to decide which is the better layout. The Buick
probably wins overall with the wood trim going across the
dashboard and into the doors but that center bulge of buttons
doesn't really look as good as it could have. The Lexus isn't
great either with an almost cartoonish looking center stack. The
Buick does trump the Lexus though in ambient lighting that
borders cheesy but doesn't cross it. It's kind of odd to find
ice blue lighting in a Buick first rather than a cheap import
car instead like when neon lights used to be all the craze after
The Fast and Furious.
Here's a fun fact: In Canada the LaCrosse is renamed as the
Allure because in Quebecois slang, 'lacrosse' means to pleasure
yourself. |
