| The new Ford Fusion has garnered a
lot of positive attention lately. It's received rave reviews,
numerous awards, offers a wide variety of trims including a
top-class hybrid, and looks good to boot. But does it look as
good as its European sibling, the Ford Mondeo? I guess that's up
to you. |

Ford Fusion |
vs |
2009 Ford Mondeo |
| The Fusion actually looks more
American whereas the Mondeo looks more European. The Fusion is
more aggressive and a lot bolder with its oversized three bar
grille and sculptured hood. It has a trapezoidal grille like the
Mondeo but its more subdued. While the Fusion looks bolder, the
Mondeo looks more elegant. The headlights are curved, the upper
grille is kept moderate, and the hood is smooth and rounded. |

| Both front-end designs look great
and match each car's respective market. Could a Fusion do well
in Europe and a Mondeo do well in America? I guess we'll never
know unfortunately. |
| This is where the Fusion starts to
fall behind. The oddly proportioned C-pillar and squarish
silhouette doesn't look nearly as good as the Mondeo's profile.
The Mondeo has a more elegant design with rounded fender flares,
a smooth roofline, and a better window design that adds a small
window in the rear balancing out the proportions. |
| Both rear designs are a tossup. The
Fusion's rear doesn't look quite as modern as it should. The
trunk has some distinctive character lines which look good but
the tail lights don't match. The Mondeo's tail lights don't look
that great either though. They have an odd shape and with the
placement of the license plate below them, the combination looks
like eyes and a mouth. Both aren't horrible but aren't as good
as the good-looking front-ends. |
| Both interiors have a similar
layout with the Fusion favoring squared-off designs and the
Mondeo favoring circular designs. Buttons on the Fusion may be a
bit too low but it makes room for a large information screen. |
