Details are beginning to pour out about Chevrolet and Ford's new compact sedans which should be out next year. The Cobalt is now changing to the Cruze after an unsuccessful few years. The Focus nameplate stays but the model will now be based on the same one from Europe, making it a true world car. Both new models are good news as they look better in every way compared to the current generations.
2011 Chevrolet Cruze vs 2010 Ford Focus
Both Chevy and Ford are incorporating their new faces onto the Cruze and Focus. The split grill of the Cruze is similar to other models such as the Chevrolet Malibu, Equinox and others while the Focus's lower grill is similar to the Ford Taurus, Fusion, etc. Ford's grille might not be welcomed as much as the Chevy's due to the odd mouth look. The best features of both cars are their new headlight designs which create a subtle but distinct look. The Cruze's are sharp and aggressive while the Focus's are more fluid. Overall, both look tremendously better than the models available now.
While the Focus's front looks fresh, the rest of the design doesn't look that new. The Cruze has a more modern look to it.
The Cruze's side profile looks better than the Focus. The roof flows nicely into the rear while the Focus puts a small window in between the C- and D-pillars which throws off the look. The Focus's pronounced fender flares look more for the aftermarket than a production car.
Both car's tail lights don't match the rest of the car's good looks. The Cruze's are a bit too large and the circular designs in the center look cartoonish. The Focus's tail lights are a little cleaner but boring and feature a large backup light in the center.

Note: Ford Focus RS interior shown
The Cruze's interior looks richer than the Focus. Materials are nicer and the layout is a few years ahead compared to the outdated styling of the Focus. Don't get your hopes up for the extra gauges in the center or carbon fiber trim either. That's only for the Focus RS version which we won't get.
