| Hyundai has been making significant
strides as an automaker over the past few years but their
vehicles really never got great attention except for the
Genesis.
Hyundai has decided to change all that by breaking away from the
mold with the new
Hyundai Sonata. It's dramatically different from its
predecessor which tended to side on the safe side of styling
like the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. Well, Hyundai has
decided to evoke some passion in the Sonata's design that'll get
far more attention than before. |

vs |
2010 Toyota Camry |
| The first thing you'll notice on
the new Sonata is the swoopy styling which Hyundai calls
"fluidic sculpture." The headlights curve with the sculpted
bumper and the grille gets a wider, more aggressive design. The
Camry on the other hand, will probably still appeal to more
buyers with its soft understated good looks but it's beginning
to look pretty bland in comparison. |
| The most dramatic restyling of the
Sonata is the body shape. It takes a four-door coupe body style
which is now gaining popularity started by the Mercedes CLS (see
notes). The Sonata looks sleeker than the Camry and looks larger
than it really it is with the roofline flowing further into the
rear. |
| The Sonata's design theme is
completely different than the Camry's. The bland, soft looks that
the Camry and previous Sonata employed is replaced by
aggressive, sexier sheet metal. The creased side, flowing
roofline, and short rear deck all look more interesting than the
Camry. Will it sell more than the Camry? No, but nothing does
except trucks. Will it get more head turns? Absolutely. |
| The Sonata's interior looks very
upscale in comparison to the Camry and might even rival some
Lexus's. The center stack is designed
beautifully with premium materials and an elegant design that is
handsomely integrated into the dashboard that flows smoothly into the
center console. |
